Three of Elgin's local historians, E.C. Mike Alft, Bill Briska and Jerry Turnquist talk at length at this rebroadcast of a January 20th Elgin Community Network presentation.  Part of the continuing Elgin Alive series, the three are lead in the discussion by Dave Kaptain, as they cover the events from the late 1800's through the mid 1900's.  This presentation is in two parts and covers common practices for waste disposal, water conservation and more.

Here is the discussion on these topics and more, as Tom Armstrong, Sr. Planner with the City of Elgin, leads a talk following the movie.

The audience was treated to a film, got to see an electric car just outside the library, and also participated in a discussion and Q&A session.  The discussion was lead by Rich Hirshberg, Bill Bailey and Eric Schnieder.  A lot of great information and thoughtful questions.

On June 17th, the ECN hosted an interesting evening of presenters.   Kyla Jacobsen, Water System Superintendent for the City of Elgin, followed by Jeff Freeman, VP Engineering Enterprises Inc, and Tish Powell, Administrative Superintendent of the City of Elgin's Public Works.

In Part One: Dave Kaptain introduced the program and speakers. In this first installment, we hear the audio from a video presentation. The audio works quite well all on its own, with valuable information.

Each segment/speaker has their own podcast, with a final segment (Part 5) became a Q & A time with the audience.

In the second half of the program, Carl Missele, President of the ECN, talks about the recent successful movie event, An Inconvenient Truth. The event was held at the Gail Borden Public Library and also featured a discussion afterwards. Carl also covers further activities in the works for informational events.

 Also, a chat with the VP of the newly formed Summit Park Neighborhood Association, Jim Lewis.  Come listen in on how a neighborhood group is formed and what needs and goals are included.

Also included, Norma Miess, Executive Director of the Downtown Neighborhood Association, talks about the DNA's September schedule of events. Learn about how the DNA focuses on cohesively bringing together the business community for a stronger downtown.

Join us as moderator Gary Joy and co-host Mark Billings of the ECN give an overview, talking about the ECN's history, accomplishments, and plans for the future.

Then, in the second half, James Capraro, Executive Director of the Greater Southwest Development Corporation, joins us for a preview of the August 24th presentation on community revitalization. Jim will share the experience of rebuilding a community in Chicago, and how the challenges and successes of his organization relate to our city.
